Labyrinthine medieval cities, sprawling sand dunes, shops piled high with exotic spices, rugs and pottery, kasbahs, camels, mountains and ocean, Morocco is a land of vivid contrasts. It is the gateway between two continents, Europe and Africa, and home to ancient traditions and diverse peoples. This tour is a cultural immersion of Arab, European and African influences
We meet in the famed Casablanca, travel north to the capital, Rabat, and then on to Fes, the Atlas Mountains and end in Marrakesh. All along the way we will visit souks, medinas, mosques and other important sites, led by an educated and informed English speaking guide. We’ll have yoga classes with Baxter and Melina, eat excellent and interesting food and immerse in the beauty, diversity and mystique of Morocco.
Day 1, April 30 Casablanca
Arrive Casablanca, Morocco. The Sofitel Le Tour Blanche is our first night’s lodging,. We’ll gather at their roof top cafe in the early evening for our group welcome and enjoy the fantastic views of the Hassan11 Mosque and the city. Overnight Sofitel Le Tour Blanche.
Day 2, May 1 Casablanca – Rabat
We will meet in the lobby for an early morning exploration of Casablanca. We’ll visit the Hassan 11 Mosque on our way to the Capitol City of Rabat. Afternoon yoga. Overnight, MGallery Diwan Hotel.
Day 3, May 2 Rabat
Explore Rabat, the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum Mohamed V . A guided walking tour into the Medina, the ancient, non-European part of the Capitol City and the Kasbah des Oudaïas. Afternoon yoga. Overnight, MGallery Diwan Hotel.
Day 4, May 3 Rabat – Fes
Morning yoga then drive from Rabat to Fes, the ancient walled city of Morocco. En route visit two World Heritage Sites: the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the city of Meknès. Traditional Moroccan Dinner and Overnight, Riad Fes.
Day 5, May 4 Fes
Morning yoga. Explore the medieval Medina and the souks of Fes. Tour galleries and workshops of artisans working with wood, copper, silver, leather and silk. Overnight, Riad Fes.
Day 6, May 5 Fes – Erfoud – Private Desert camp
Today we leave the cities for the Atlas Mountains. It is a long but scenic drive as we head to our Luxury Camp in the desert. in the region of Ifrane. We enter the Cedar Woods of the Middle Atlas Mountains and cross via the Col du Zad, a mountain pass at an elevation of 7145 Feet. After lunch we continue across the High Atlas mountains via the Ziz gorge to reach the green ‘belt’ of the Tafilalte valle, the largest Saharan oasis in Morocco. We finish our long day of travel near Merzouga at a fully equipped Desert Camp for our a delicious dinner and glamping overnight.
Day 7, May 6 Desert Camp
Morning camel ride through beautiful sand dunes and oasis. Afternoon yoga. Under the desert sky we will enjoy dinner with entertainment following, local musicians performing Gnaoua music. Overnight Desert Camp.
Day 8, May 7 Erg Chebbi/Merzouga – Todra gorge – Boumalne
Early day departure from the desert and begin the journey to the Dades valley at the Southern slopes of the High Atlas Mountains. En route visit the Todra gorge. Continue to Boumalne Dadès and the Xaluca Dades Hotel. for our overnight stay.
Day 9, May 8 Boumalne Dades – Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakesh
Head via Ouarzazate to the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a group of earthen buildings surrounded by high walls, a traditional pre-Saharan habitat now a UNESCO World heritage Site. From here we will drive to Marrakesh over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Afternoon yoga. Overnight at the Hotel Es Saadi.
Day 10, May 9 Marrakesh
A full day in Marrakesh. Tour the Majorelles Gardens and the Berber Museum. After lunch we’ll take a guided walk in the Medina and the souks and the main square, Djemaa el Fna. Afternoon yoga. Farewell dinner and overnight Hotel Es Saadi.
Day 11, May 10 Marrakesh
The tour ends, transfer to Marrakesh airport (or Marrakesh train to Casablanca) for departure.
